Who am i…
Dance has been my life, my passion.
Like all dancers’ stories, I started ballet classes from 3 and attended Stagecoach from 9. I went on to study full time from 14 years old at The BRIT School in Croydon, concentrating on all forms of dance genres such as Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Spanish and Contemporary. By 18, I had completed an A-level in Dance and BTEC L3 in Performing Arts and was qualified to teach LAMDA exams and achieved my ALCM in Musical Theatre singing with the London College of Music. I continued studies in musical theatre at the Arts Educational Schools in Chiswick.
I was lucky enough to continue performing professionally until I was 41 in Radio, film, theatre, cruise ships and theme parks. Between contracts, I have always found myself in a teaching role, since 15 years old, for private performing arts schools across the South East of England.
In 2006 I took the opportunity to restudy at West Minster University to complete a Certificate in Education for the long life learning sector which opend doors to lecture at colleges and international schools in India and Singapore, teaching Western Arts and heading the Jazz dance department and restructuring their exams with the James Robey Jazz curriculum based on a pure American take on the genre.
Since moving back to the UK in 2016, I have continued my professional development in creating an English approach to the James Robey Jazz curriculum, translated into 6 levels of exams and is the basis of my JazzTech classes coming soon. I have also studied PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique) and floor barre work, as well as being an advocate of Pilates (first created for injured professional Ballet dancers) and Les Mills Body Balance. All amazing fitness techniques derived mainly from dance, so I am sure my classes will reflect some familiar exercises you will enjoy, and I cannot wait to meet you!
